We bought two new trees last fall and it was fun to watch them bloom this spring. I really didn't realize that either of them were going to have spring blooms. The first pic ( LT ) is of a Chokecherry tree, different from the Chokecherry bushes in Saskatchewan, it does not have any berries on it. It came out green in early spring a few weeks ago, and shortly after developed these pretty white blossoms. It will eventually turn a dark purplish/brown color and remain that way until fall.

The picture above RT is a beautiful tree that has green leaves thoughout the year and has these lovely pink carnation like blossoms in the spring. I don't even remember what type of tree it is - but sure wasn't expecting such nice blooms.

The pic to the RT is a Redbud. They are indigenous to KY so you see them scattered through the countryside in the spring. I love the color of the blooms. They only last a few weeks and turn to a nice large leaf that offers a lot of privacy.

These pictures were taken a week or two ago. Most of the trees are out in leaf now.

I am hoping to plant some flowers this week end. I have accumulated so many, and have been trying to get at it but couldn't today and we are having possible severe storms here tomorrow.

I can't believe it has been one week since my last post ! So much has happened. I've purchased most of the plants for my front porch. I love picking out plants for the porch as it is covered, and the only place in my yard where I can plant shade plants.

I picked up some beautiful Caladium, green Sweet Potatoe Vines, and Kong Colius among other things at Walnut ridge Nursery. They have a fantastic nursery, with a good selection of tropicals, a bit to early for those. In fact the Caladium and SP Vine cannot be out below 50degrees - so I will have to bring them in at night this week end.

I bought some new pots for my front porch this year. The urns are actually plastic which I try to avoid using but these were really attractive and very cheap - and being that they will be on a covered porch, they shouldn't fade.

The picture to the left is of 2 other new pots that were not as cheap, but so beautiful ..... and Southern looking I thought.

This is my plastic urn (RT ) There is one on each side of a bench.

It is filled with Kong Colius in the center and SP Vine as a spiller along with red petunias - one is a stand up and the other will spread and drape. The small white flowering plant, Diamond Frost, will spread throughout the pot as it all grows.

The Kong Colius will grow 1-2 feet tall so it makes a great center piece.

Below is a fern from Lowe's. They add so much beauty and again, I think they are so Southern looking. Perfect for a porch !

I purchased a few other gems for the porch that I will add to the next blog once they are planted.

I have 2 Caladium - but will wait until after the week end to plant. Also 3 gorgeous Non Stop Begonias as well as some New Guiney Impatients -- all stunners ! Will post pics soon !

We have had some fantastic gardening weather in KY with highs in the 80's. This week end though will be highs in the 60's. Perfect Golf weather, as my husband pointed out !!

I am so excited to write my first post. This time of year is a gardeners dream. I have already visited many of the wonderful flower shops and nurseries in the city. I love to seek them all out, see what they have and compare everything. Flower shopping is so fun !
I am plotting and scheming what my pots will look like this year, but have planted very little. I have a few pansies in.
Planning each pot is creative and fun ..... I usually put several plants per pot.
Gardening is such a perfect hobbie ..... it involves shopping, creative planning, nature, and the beautiful results ..... a flower garden to sit in.
On nice spring and summer mornings, my husband and I get up and head straight out to the garden and sit among the flowers while we watch the birds and the squirrels feeding. It is so peacful, I always hate to leave. Its my little bit of heaven !!
